FAQ

Here are some of our most frequently asked questions

What age does my dancer need to be to participate?

We offer classes to ages 3+. We run preschool classes for ages 3 and 4 (subject to change based on location). Dancers move into our beginner program once attending kindergarten full time.

What does my dancer need to bring to class?

Dancers should bring their dance shoes, a water bottle, and any other things they may require. Most dancers keep all of their items in a personal bag. ALL ITEMS SHOULD BE LABELLED WITH YOUR CHILDS NAME SO WE KNOW WHERE TO RETURN THEM!

What should my dancer wear to dance class?

We recommend that dancers wear a t-shirt or tank top with shorts or leggings to class. Body suits and skirts are also acceptable. Stay away from clothing that will restrict movement and be hot such a jeans and sweaters.

How many days a week does my dancer need to attend classes?

Beginners start with classes one day a week, either a 30min or 45min class length depending on age. They can move to two classes a week when they are ready to do so. Our competitive dancers are required to dance 2-3 times a week. Drop-in classes are also offered on an “as needed” basis and are offered to all dancers.

Can I watch my dancer during class?

We have a small viewing window that looks into the dance space; however, we tend to keep the blinds slightly closed as to not distract the dancers. We encourage dancers to attend lessons independently to focus on instruction and allow relationships to form with teachers and peers. We will work with families and allow parents to sit in until the dancer is independent (and comfortable) enough space to be in the dance space without their parents.

Where can I wait during my dancer’s lessons?

We have a small sitting area at the front of our studio for parents to wait. We are also located across the street from a food plaza so parents are free to leave, grab a coffee, and pick up their child at the end of class.

Does my dancer need soft shoes?

Beginner dancers are not required to wear soft shoes. Soft ballet shoes are a great starting shoe, especially for younger dancers. Once they have progressed, we can look into finding them a proper pair of soft shoes to fit their feet and show parents/dancers how to tie them correctly.

Can my dancer start hard shoes right away?

No, unless they have prior experience. We require our beginners to do a minimum of one year in soft shoes before moving to hard shoes. Depending on their age and skill level, we will decide if they are ready for hard shoes.

Can my dancer do hard shoe classes ONLY?

No. We require our dancers to do both hard shoe and soft shoe dances. Participating in only one style of show limits their progression in competitive dance as both elements are required as they progress. It also limits their participation in performances as both are included in routines.

Does my dancer have to be competitive?

No. Our school is open to both competitive and recreational dancers. We do recommend that all dancers compete in at least 1-2 competitions a year as something to work towards, but it is not required.

Is there anything for my dancer to participate in without competing?

As dancers progress, they will receive invites to participate in performances such as St. Patrick’s Day shows or street festivals. Families will be notified when their dancer is ready.

Do you sell or provide water?

We encourage dancers to come to class with a personal water bottle. We carry plastic water bottles for when a dancer forgets their own, but dancers should make it a habit to bring their own.

Do you have a recital?

Yes!  Some years, we may host a recital as a private event at a small casual venue and other years, we may use performances at festivals as a recital to save on costs. We do not do our recital at a theatre.
